Artist Research - Eric Kim

In this post I will look at Eric Kim, an American photographer that does Street Photography (All About Photo, 2022). Street Photography aims to capture a moment, this can include people or not, take a photographer about anything you can find interest (Eric Kim Photography, N.D.). According to Photo Pedagogy (N.D.) the candid moment aims to capture the exactly moment and freeze it in a second. The geometry that we can find in life around us can also be added to a picture (Holden Luntz Gallery, 2022). I found very interesting that Kim start experiment Street Photography by chance.

"
I was standing at a bus stop and I saw a man with horn-shaped glasses reading a book. There was something so genuine and unique about the moment.'' (All About Photo, 2022).

I can relate his first contact to Street Photography with the work that I am developing now for this project as I have not done Street Photography such in depth where I need to observe a place or people and freeze the moment.
According to All About Photo (2022), Kim says that he never got punched while doing his projects, and this was actually one of the things that makes me more insecure about Street Photography. However, having artists such as Eric Kim, Nicholas Goodden and Rui Palha, this last two I have done research already, I have some inspiration and tips from them that I can use in my own work.

Figure 1 - Marseille, Eric Kim, 2013

The Figure 1, a work from Eric Kim from 2013 show us a man laying down in the rocks. The man seems to be in a bay and it's clearly enjoying the sun. However, I do not believe that is comfortable to laying down in such uneven floor. The camera angles tells us that the artist was lying down and very close to the subject to be able to capture the moment. The man probably was having a nap and maybe he did not understand that someone was taking his picture.
